Dee's Adventures in Sprocketland
Why this project?
My name is Diana, I joined HubSpot Support on April 1st, 2019. I have been incredibly blessed to walk alongside wonderful people who have taught me extraordinary lessons, both at professional and personal level. However, this journey hasn't been in a vacuum. My family has also walked with me through this time and I have learnt that, now more than ever, these two areas of my life are incredibly intertwined and affect one another deeply.
During my time in this journey, my family and I have gone through a lot of changes that have affected my mental health. For a while I was very reluctant to open up to my team or my manager because of the stigma around mental health issues. I thought if I did so people might see me as not committed enough. Not capable enough. Simply not good enough.
I couldn't have been more wrong. Accepting this stigma was setting me down a dangerous path that in my case could only be broken by sharing my struggle with people I trusted. This showed me the power of story telling when in a crisis. By opening up to others, I could make sense of what I was going through and get the space I needed to heal and grow. I also was able to see first hand the fantastic response from my managers and my team, who helped me through all of this. I learnt HubSpot is indeed a safe space to talk, a place where we are welcome as we are, with all of our gifts and all of our vulnerabilities.
This video was created for my promotion presentation in February, 2020 as a way to thank the leadership team for the support they have given me. I am delighted now to share it with you. This is a window into my journey and also an invitation to share your experiences too. Together we can continue making HubSpot an inclusive place where we can bring our whole selves. Let's keep the conversation about mental health open.
Now it is your turn, I would love to hear from you.
What did you think about the video? Have you been through a challenging time recently? When was the last time you reached out to a friend? Do you think this is important within your team?
Please let me know using the form in the footer or email me directly. Thank you for your time.
